Best Prop Firms for Day Traders: Intraday Rules Compared

Published: January 15, 2026 • Updated: October 5, 2026 • By Anyro

Quick answer: for futures day traders, the best prop firm is the one whose intraday rules match how you trade. If you need room during volatile opens, pick an end-of-day drawdown account such as Topstep, Apex EOD, Tradeify or FTMO Futures. If you trade the news, Tradeify and Bulenox have no news blackout. If you want daily payouts, MyFundedFutures Rapid and Tradeify Select Daily. Apex, MyFundedFutures, Tradeify, FTMO Futures, Take Profit Trader and Bulenox all make you flat before a daily cut-off. Rules checked on official sites on October 5, 2026; for overall rankings and prices, see our best prop firms of 2026.

The 6 rules that decide a day trader's account

These are the firm's own rules. The regulatory side of day trading, FINRA margin rules for stocks and CFTC and NFA rules for futures, is covered in our U.S. day trading rules guide. Inside a prop account, these six decide whether you keep it.

1. Drawdown: end-of-day vs intraday

An intraday trailing floor moves up with open profit, so a winner you give back still costs you buffer. An end-of-day floor only moves after the close, though it is still enforced live during the session. If your trades often run before they work, choose EOD. Our end-of-day vs intraday drawdown guide shows the maths, and how trailing drawdown works walks a week of trades through each type.

2. Daily loss limit: hard, soft or none

A hard limit fails the account (FTMO Futures Pro). A soft limit pauses you until the next session (Topstep if you opt in, Apex EOD evaluations, FTMO Growth when funded, MyFundedFutures Builder, Bulenox Option 2). No limit (Apex Intraday evaluations, MyFundedFutures Rapid, Tradeify Select evaluations) means your own daily stop is the only protection between a bad morning and a breach.

3. The daily close

Apex, MyFundedFutures, Tradeify, FTMO Futures, Take Profit Trader and Bulenox all require you to be flat before a daily cut-off: 4:10 PM ET at FTMO Futures and MyFundedFutures, 4:45 PM ET at Tradeify, 4:55 PM ET at Take Profit Trader, and 4:59 PM ET at Apex and Bulenox (3:59 PM CT). Topstep's trading day ends at 3:10 PM CT. Afternoon traders should check the cut-off before choosing.

4. News windows

Funded MyFundedFutures Rapid and Pro accounts must be flat from 2 minutes before to 2 minutes after Tier 1 releases such as FOMC, CPI and the jobs report; Take Profit Trader PRO requires 1 minute either side. Topstep bans trading your full maximum position into a scheduled major release. Tradeify and Bulenox have no news blackout.

5. Consistency rules

Most firms cap how much of your profit one day can contribute, either to pass (Topstep's 55% of the target) or to get paid (Apex's best day under 50%). Day traders who catch one big trend day can pass the target and still have to keep trading. See the consistency rule guide, and our step-by-step guide to passing a prop firm challenge for pacing daily profit under these caps.

6. Winning days, qualifying days and benchmark days

Firms gate payouts on days that clear a profit threshold, and each firm names them differently: winning days at Topstep, qualifying days at Apex and FTMO Futures, benchmark days at FundedNext Futures. The payout-day table below compares them.

What are benchmark days? Payout-day rules compared

Benchmark days are FundedNext Futures' name for funded-account trading days that net at least a set profit: $200 on a $50K Legacy or Flex account. You need 5 benchmark days, plus $500 of profit in the current cycle, before each withdrawal. They do not apply during the Challenge or on Rapid accounts, and after 30 benchmark days a Legacy account can withdraw 100% of its profit.

Other firms run the same gate under different names. For a day trader, the threshold matters as much as the count: a $150 day is a normal session, a $250 day is not.

Firm / account ($50K)What the firm calls itA day counts if it netsDays per payoutFewest days to pass
Topstep XFA, Standard pathWinning day$15052
Topstep XFA, Consistency pathTrading dayAny day with a trade3 (best day 40% or less of profit)2
Apex EOD PAQualifying day$25051
Apex Intraday PAQualifying day$20051
FTMO Futures GrowthQualifying day$15043
FTMO Futures ProQualifying day$20052
FundedNext Futures LegacyBenchmark day$2005, plus $500 profit in the cycle3

The "fewest days to pass" column comes from each firm's best-day cap: Topstep's 55% consistency target allows a pass in as few as 2 days, FTMO Futures states 3 days for Growth and 2 for Pro, FundedNext's Legacy Challenge caps a day at 40% of the $3,000 target ($1,200), and Apex has no minimum days or consistency rule in its evaluation.

Fewest trading days to a first payout (50K)

Add the two columns and you get the fastest possible path, counted in trading days and ignoring activation and review time:

  • Topstep Consistency path: 5 days (2 to pass, then 3 funded days with no single day above 40% of profit).
  • Apex EOD: 6 days (1 to pass, then 5 qualifying days of $250). The PA balance must also reach $52,600 before the request.
  • Topstep Standard path, FTMO Futures Growth and Pro: 7 days.
  • FundedNext Futures Legacy: 8 days (3 to pass, then 5 benchmark days).

Daily-payout accounts replace the day count with a buffer. A 50K MyFundedFutures Rapid account pays daily once its funded balance clears a $2,100 buffer, after an evaluation of at least 2 days. For how long the money then takes to arrive, see the payout and withdrawal guide.

Best prop firm by day-trading style

You trade the open and need room intraday

Topstep, Apex EOD, Tradeify or FTMO Futures Growth. All use end-of-day drawdowns, and Growth has no daily limit in the evaluation.

You trade the news

Tradeify or Bulenox. Apex allows news inside your normal strategy but bans two-sided bets on a release. Avoid funded MyFundedFutures Rapid and Pro and Take Profit Trader PRO during release windows.

You want to be stopped out for the day automatically

Topstep with its optional daily loss limit, MyFundedFutures Builder with its soft pause, or Bulenox Option 2.

You want paid fast

MyFundedFutures Rapid and Tradeify Select Daily pay daily; Take Profit Trader PRO pays daily once the buffer is built. Among day-count firms, Topstep's Consistency path is the shortest route to a first payout (see the payout-day table).

You scalp in seconds

Read the minimum-hold rules first: on Tradeify funded accounts, more than half your trades and profit must come from trades held over 10 seconds. Our best prop firms for scalping covers this in detail.

None of these fits

If your style sits between these, work through our guide to choosing a prop firm, which matches drawdown, fees, payout rules and platform to how you trade before you pay.

What these firms pay

Topstep pays 90/10; traders who joined its new dashboard before January 12, 2026 keep 100% of their first $10,000 in lifetime profits (Topstep payout policy). Apex pays 100% of approved payouts on current accounts, with six capped payouts per account. MyFundedFutures Rapid, Tradeify and FTMO Futures pay 90/10, Take Profit Trader PRO 80/20, and Bulenox 100% of the first $10,000 and then 90/10. Compare them in the profit split comparison.
